How Invisalign Works

To straighten your teeth, a series of custom-made aligners are made to bring your teeth from where they are now to their properly aligned positions. You’ll wear each tray for one to two weeks at a time and for 20-22 hours a day. This last part is crucial because your aligners only work while you’re wearing them, so you should only take them out to eat and complete your oral hygiene regimen. Throughout your treatment, you’ll come in for check-in appointments every six weeks or so. That way, we can make sure your teeth are tracking properly and provide you with more aligners. At your final appointment, we will ensure that you love the results before getting to work on making your custom retainer!
Indications for Invisalign

One of the many perks of Invisalign is that it can effectively address crowded teeth, bite problems, and more! Keep reading to learn a few common orthodontic issues that can be corrected with clear aligner treatment:
Crowded Teeth
Overcrowding is one of the most common orthodontic problems. Good news: Invisalign can make crowded teeth a thing of the past with its clear, comfortable, and discreet aligners! Plus, the average treatment timeline is 12 to 18 months, so you won’t have to wait too long to have the straight teeth you’ve been wanting.
Gaps Between Teeth
While some patients love the spaces between their teeth, others aren’t a fan of the noticeable gaps. If you want to improve the look of your smile (as well as the health and function of it), then talk to Dr. Q about Invisalign. With a series of custom-made aligners, you’ll see the gaps gradually disappear over the course of your treatment.
Bite Alignment
If your bite isn’t aligned properly, then there’s a good chance that your chewing patterns aren’t ideal. Plus, patients with overbites, underbites, and the like are more likely to experience issues like chronic teeth grinding and premature wear. Fortunately, Invisalign’s clear aligners can do more than straighten teeth – they can correct mild to moderate bite alignment problems as well!
The Benefits of Invisalign

To date, more than 12 million patients have chosen to straighten their teeth with Invisalign. Here are five reasons you should consider doing the same:
- See-through aligners – Unlike traditional braces, no one will be able to tell you’re straightening your teeth thanks to Invisalign’s clear, virtually undetectable trays.
- No dietary restrictions – You won’t have to avoid certain foods throughout your orthodontic treatment. Just make sure to always remove your aligners first!
- Shorter average treatment timelines – On average, Invisalign delivers beautiful results in just 12 to 18 months.
- Fewer check-in visits – Since you will work through some of your trays at home, you won’t have to come in as frequently for check-in appointments.
- Comfortable trays – Each aligner is made just for you and is crafted from smooth, high-quality materials. As a result, you’re significantly less likely to experience any irritation or mouth sores during your treatment.
Understanding the Cost of Invisalign

Before starting your Invisalign treatment, there are a few things you need to know, including how much it costs. Although there isn’t a flat fee, there is an easy way to find out the answer: scheduling a consultation with our Cinco Ranch dentist, Dr. Q. At this visit, he will learn all about your dental needs, create your custom treatment plan, provide you with an estimate of the cost, and review the financial solutions available to make your treatment more affordable. If you want to learn more before your appointment, you can read on as well!
Factors That Affect the Cost of Invisalign
To determine important information about your treatment plan, including how many aligners are needed, we must first determine how complex your case is. In turn, this will impact whether you need to straighten both arches of teeth, if additional accessories (like rubber bands) are needed, and more. When we give you an estimate of the timeline, we will also review the factors that could prolong it, including not wearing your aligners often enough or consistently misplacing them.
Invisalign vs. Smile Direct Club™: Which Costs More?
Almost always, Invisalign costs more. Despite this, it’s still the best choice for your wallet in the short and long term. Why? To start, mail-order aligner companies cut corners by skipping the initial consultation and asking patients to do DIY impressions. Additionally, there are several lawsuits from previous patients due to worsened misalignment and even more serious complications, like teeth that have fallen out. Yikes! For those reasons, we always recommend sticking to the professionals when it comes to something as important as your smile.
Does Dental Insurance Cover Invisalign?
Not always. With that said, some patients do have a once-in-a-lifetime orthodontic benefit included in their plan. If you do, then upwards of 50% of the cost may be covered by your provider! Since this is a sizable amount, it’s definitely worth reaching out to your dental insurance company or reviewing the fine print on your plan yourself. Of course, you’re also welcome to reach out to our team with any questions you have.
Options for Making Invisalign Affordable
Luckily, dental insurance isn’t the only financial solution we welcome. We’re also happy to accept LendingPoint, which is a trusted third-party financier that allows you to space out your payments. We also have periodic special offers that can reduce your out-of-pocket expenses, making the overall cost much more affordable. If you would like further details on either of these solutions, give our team a call or ask during your consultation!
Invisalign FAQs

If you have questions about any aspect of your Invisalign treatment – from how much it costs to what life with clear aligners looks like – please don’t hesitate to let our team know. In fact, we dedicate a portion of your consultation to answering any questions you have as well as addressing any concerns! However, if you don’t yet have an appointment on the calendar, but you want to learn more on the topic, then keep reading for the answers to FAQs about Invisalign.
How Long Does Invisalign Take?
As with any orthodontic treatment, the length of your Invisalign timeline will depend on a multitude of factors, including how complex your case is. With that said, the average treatment timeline is just 12 to 18 months. Furthermore, patients with more minor misalignment can achieve results in as little as six months. Ultimately, the best way to get an estimate is by scheduling a consultation.
What Happens After My Invisalign Treatment?
Naturally, one of the best parts of life after Invisalign is showing off your gorgeous new smile! However, there is another component that’s equally as important: wearing your retainer. Typically, patients are asked to wear it every night. That way, the likelihood of you experiencing orthodontic relapse is significantly reduced.
Is There Anything I Can’t Eat with Invisalign?
Of course, you can’t eat anything with your aligners in since that could warp or break them. Outside of that, however, there aren’t really any rules that affect your diet! As your dental team, we do encourage you to keep your consumption of sugary foods to a minimum since this can result in cavities. Similarly, we don’t recommend eating dark-colored foods and drinking dark-colored beverages regularly since they can stain your teeth (and even your aligners).
Can I Drink Coffee with Invisalign?
While you can’t drink coffee with your aligners in, you can enjoy this caffeinated beverage worry-free after removing them! Naturally, meeting the 20-22 hour-a-day wear time continues to be a priority, which is why we recommend enjoying your coffee alongside a meal. This will help cut down on the amount of time you’re not wearing them.
How Do I Clean My Aligners?
Fortunately, you only need two things to clean your aligners properly: a soft-bristled toothbrush and some clean, lukewarm water. After dampening the bristles of your toothbrush, carefully clean each surface of your aligners. Then, rinse them off – that’s it! Although you don’t need to use the Invisalign Cleaning Crystals on a daily basis, you can use them if your trays are starting to discolor or smell.
